Whether you love Paris a little, a lot, passionately or you don’t know the city at all, welcome to the Hôtel de Lille, located in the heart of the City of Light. Today, we invite you to take a spring break in the capital and enjoy the various sporting events lined up to usher in the season.
If you’ve already been our guest, you know the jogging routes in the vicinity of the hotel. Perhaps you’ve even tested the electric Smart Bikes which you can use to explore the city effortlessly. If that’s not enough to satisfy your appetite for exercise and competitive action, read on as we tell you about this spring’s most popular and iconic sporting events.
Racing to the top of the Eiffel Tower
On Wednesday, March 11th, the Iron Lady has a surprise for you. For sports enthusiasts who love Paris, the Eiffel Tower Vertical is a must. This outdoor stair race (665 steps!) is undoubtedly the most original, but exhausting, way to enjoy the most visited monument in the world. Registrations and qualifications have already taken place. Be at the famous landmark at 20:00 on March 11th to see the 131 competitors set off. (Information available from our concierge or at verticaletoueiffel.fr).
See the equestrian elite!
The start of spring heralds the annual return of a world-class show jumping event to Paris when the luxury brand Hermès presents its eleventh edition of the Saut Hermès. It’s not to be missed.
From Friday March 20th to Sunday March 22nd, the world’s best riders and mounts will gather to compete beneath the metal and glass roof of the magnificent Grand Palais. This exhibition hall and museum complex was begun in 1897, completed in time for the Universal Exhibition of 1900 and declared a historic monument in 2000. It’s well suited to equestrian events such as the Saut Hermès. This international CSI 5* elite show jumping competition is divided into ten disciplines. The climactic tenth is the Grand Prix Hermès. On Sunday April 5th it will be time to take off your riding boots and lace up your running shoes for the Paris Marathon! Registration is closed, but you can support participants throughout the 42.195 km street race, only at the start (Avenue des Champs Elysées) or at the finish (Avenue Foch). You can also follow the runners on official apps or online. (Information from the hotel concierge or on schneiderelectricparismarathon.com)
Spinning wheels!
Head to the Hôtel des Invalides on Saturday April 18th to see the E-prix de Paris. This exclusively electric car race counts towards the international electric racing championship (FIA Formula E). Don’t miss the 24 single-seater cars competing for first place on a 1.93 km circuit with 14 turns. And if you have the urge to pit your own skills against this challenging track, you can do so on your electric vehicle (bicycle, scooter, etc.) before or after the main event!
